Abstract

In the early fifties, K. Ziegler was working at Mülheim’s Max Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung (where, ironically, he was going to develop some of the main bases of the more competitive petrochemistry), developing a a very interesting catalytic process called the aufbau reaction:

That process, yielding a distribution of desirable low molecular weight α-olefins, is still of great industrial importance.
