Abstract
During May 1985, the Seafloor Benchmark Positioning System (SBPS) Experiment was conducted about 35 km off Monterey California. In this experiment, the position of the R/V ACANIA was determinined by Global Positioning System receivers. Concurrently, acoustic positioning, miniranger positioning and other data sets were collected.
Discussed here are the details of the survey cruise and the accuracy of the acoustic positioning data. Some of the details of the 1986, Phase 2, cruise are discussed.
