Climatology from Space: Data Sets for Climate Monitoring and Climate Modelling

  • Chapter
Remote Sensing Applications in Meteorology and Climatology

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 201))

Abstract

The study of climatology from space is discussed with reference to two climate system components: the biosphere and the cryosphere. The NOAA global vegetation index is discussed along with the potential role of the cryosphere in monitoring climate change. The data are discussed in the context of global climate modelling.
