Abstract

The main features of the electrical double (multi)layer are highlighted, along with the difficulties encountered in measuring the high exchange current densities pertaining to these interfaces in the presence of electroactive ions. It is emphasized that studies must proceed on the basis of an electroanalytical understanding of the overall electrode processes, and must pay attention to coupled noncharge transfer steps.
