Abstract
Robustness in statistics means insensitivity of statistical procedures against the violation of assumptions underlying the theoretical development of these procedures. The term was first used in this connection by Box (1953). Later Huber (1964) initiated a theory of robust estimation (robust against outliers and contamination of distributions).
