Excited Van Der Waals Complexes as a Probe for Intermediate States in Collisions

  • Chapter
Stochasticity and Intramolecular Redistribution of Energy

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 200))

Abstract

We report here the observation of excited states In van der Waals complexes whose dissociation lead to electronic relaxation (Hg N2) or to chemical reaction (Hg H2). The spectroscopic observation of those complexes gives some new information on the intermediate states responsible for relaxation or chemical reaction. This kind of exeriment is a selective way of observing the collision complex in relaxation and reactive processes.
