Abstract
An experiment is now operational at the Haverah Park EAS detector array to study the muon content of photon induced EAS. The muon detector (~315 MeV threshold) consists of 40 m2 of liquid scintillator shielded by barytes/lead. The recording of the muon response is triggered by the University of Leeds GREX array at a rate of ~6 minute −1. The aim is to identify EAS coming directly from sources such as Cygnus X-3 and to compare the muon content with background nucleus induced EAS.
