Abstract
Progress in the preparation of international photovoltaic standards by IEC Technical Committee and its working groups is reported. After 4 years, three of eight documents covering various aspects of performance measurement have been cleared for publication and a further four are in the final stages of acceptance. Drafts of tests for the design qualification of modules have been prepared and six of these are ready for circulation to National Committees for comment. A glossary of photovoltaic and meteorological terms has reached its final draft. An introductory guide to terrestrial photovoltaic systems is at the voting stage and work is in hand on standards for the on-site measurement of array performance, energy rating and the protection of pv systems.
