Abstract
Millimeter wave interferometers have recently begun to probe the structures of circumstellar envelopes too small to be mapped by single dishes. These observations trace the effects of photochemistry in the outer envelopes and should lead to improved chemical models. Maps of three circumstellar envelopes show a range of structures, and in one case probably demonstrate a change in the mass loss rate over time. Future studies of a wider range of objects will greatly improve our understanding of mass loss processes and the transition to the planetary nebula phase.
