Abstract

“If only young people knew, and if only old people could” is a French saying. The fact that it is neither possible to ‘see into the future’ nor to ‘act in the past’ is by far the most obvious and widely recognized statement of ‘physical irreversibility’. And it goes right to the heart of the problem, as the subsequent analyses will show. It is also quite significant that it refers directly to the two faces of Aristotle’s information concept: 1°, gain in knowledge, 2°, organizing power.
