Abstract

A general theory of two-photon transitions in non-centrosymmetric lanthanide (III) complexes is developed within the independent systems model. This model invokes the contributions arising from the static and dynamic crystal field. The theory developed here is applied to the description of two-photon absorption and two-photon circular dichroism. The ligand anisotropy is considered. The general procedure for averaging over all the Stark components of the ground term is carried out in the case of two-photon absorption.
