Abstract

All the data obtained with IUE are archived by each of the three agencies; at the time of writing, this exceeds 55 000 images. The data for which the six months embargo on release has expired are available to the whole astronomical community. This paper describes the IUE archives and the uses to which they have been put, and attempts to throw some light on possible future developments.
