Chloroff, A Non-Destructive Dechlorination Process

  • Conference paper
Environmental Technology

Abstract

Liquid chemical waste streams, like spent lubrication oils, often contain various concentrations of chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds, including toxic substances like chlorinated bifenyls, dioxines and furanes.

Based upon an already existing technology of upgrading waste lube streams, a process has been developed incorporating a hydrodechlorination step which has proven to be very successful in breaking up all chlorine containing hydrocarbons.

Pilot plant experiments have been carried out which revealed that effective removal and destruction took place of the chlorinated compounds, including most toxic compounds like 2,3,7,8-TCDD.

The paper will show some Qinetic results as well as some general design information.
