Abstract

Many chemical and energy conversion processes involve multi-phase feed or product streams. Streams can consist of mixtures of solids, liquids and gases and in some cases, the important species may be in transition between phases (e.g. liquid fuel combustion which involves liquid fuel droplets, vaporized fuel and soot). Process monitoring requires the measurement of parameters for the separate phases. There are requirements for monitoring feedstocks and samples of the process stream as well as for in-situ monitoring.
