Abstract

A mineral is a substance having a definite chemical composition and atomic structure, formed by natural inorganic processes (1,2). The term “mineral matter” as applied to coal is most often used to represent the inorganic impurities as they exist before the coal is heated significantly. Here, is considered the behaviour of any coal constituent which yields an inorganic residue during combustion of the pulverised fuel.
