Abstract
The United States is engaged in a two-front competition against specialized rivals. It competes with the Soviet Union in the military arena and Japan and other nations in the industrial arena. The USSR, to a large degree, appears to neglect its industrial sector and focuses on military efforts. Japan, on the other hand, neglects its military needs and concentrates on industrial efforts.
