Radiofrequency Power Sources for Hyperthermia

  • Chapter
Physics and Technology of Hyperthermia

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 127))

Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the design of radiofrequency sources for use in hyperthermia. The frequency range considered here stretches from about 13 MHz to about 500 MHz, though the design at frequencies up to about 1 GHz can, to some extent, utilise the techniques described here. In general, the design of RF power sources for hyperthermia follows the techniques developed for communication and broadcasting transmitters, as well as for high frequency heating. The differences in design and in the emphasis will become obvious after considering the specific requirements presented by the hyperthermia equipment for clinical use.
