Job separations and job matching

  • Chapter
The Practice of Econometrics

Part of the book series: International Studies in Economics and Econometrics ((ISEE,volume 15))

Abstract

This was the point of view expressed by Cramer in 1961 near the conclusion of his elegant monograph on ‘The Ownership of Major Consumer Durables’. It is arguable that job separation is an elementary, though far from simple, economic phenomenon — and we have tried to be patient.

‘I believe that the advance of applied economics is better served by the patient study of elementary economic phenomena than by the pursuit of larger theoretical structures, and we have set out to illustrate this view by the study of a very simple phenomenon indeed. If the results are few and offer no surprise, this is only as it should be.’
