Assessment of the Vulnerability of Marine Mammals to Oil Pollution

  • Conference paper
Fate and Effects of Oil in Marine Ecosystems

Abstract

A great deal of attention is paid to marine mammals in an evaluation of possible impacts from oil spills. The general topic has been reviewed previously with a management and fisheries orientation (1) and with specific reference to the Arctic environment (2). This paper will assess risk from an oil spill to marine mammals from the perspective of overall vulnerability of an individual, population or species.
