Industrial Applications of Lasers Overview

  • Chapter
Applied Laser Tooling

Abstract

Lasers applications in industrial materials processing can be subdivided into two major groups:

  1. A

Applications requiring small but carefully controlled amount of energy such as micromachining, resistor trimming, substrate scribing, semiconductor annealing, marking, printing etc.

  2. B

Applications requiring substantial amounts of energy to induce the required phase transformation in the workpiece for processes such as cutting, welding, heat treating and cladding.
