Abstract
Several types of devices are under study in the Livestock Insects Laboratory, one of the Agricultural Research Service Laboratories whose research program is oriented toward the management of populations of animal ectoparasites. These include devices familiar and unfamiliar to the participants of this conference and are as follows:
-
(1)
Boluses for inclusion in the 2nd stomach (reticulum) of cattle, to release material for control of filth breeding flies and for which timed release can be manipulated (Miller et al. 1979, Miller and Miller 1985, Miller and Miller 1978).
-
(2)
Ear tags - which release material over a 3 month time span.
-
(3)
Implantable biodegradable devices which can be implanted and which release one or more materials at a time (Feldmesser et al. 1981, Jaffe et al. 1977, 1983, 1984).
-
(4)
Microcapsules administered in various ways (Jaffe 1985).
