Abstract
The purpose of this manuscript is to consider data acquired by automatic monitoring devices, i.e., to consider the case of dense and (mostly) equidistant measurements. It is easy to state that in order to obtain good results and a valid interpretation of the data, both adequate instrumentation and appropriate data analysis methods are needed. But it is more difficult to actually implement these two requirements. This paper attempts to examine the complexities of the problem and to give some recommendations on how to avoid pitfalls in data analysis.
