Abstract

The area of image acquisition, analysis and processing (“Imaging”) has increased greatly in importance over the last few years, particularly as a result of the impressive advances and innovations in digital methods and technology. The following aspects, in particular, are to be outlined: definition of new and efficient algorithms; new image acquisition and digitizing systems; construction of special digital microelectronic devices with high complexity (such as LSI-VLSI, microcomputers, array processors) at a decreasing cost; production of fast computers and microcomputers.
