Abstract

The photosynthetic electron transport system in plants is composed of several large protein complexes imbedded within the thylakoid membrane. These include photosystem II reaction centers (1), the cytochrome b-f complex (2), photosystem I reaction centers (3), and the light harvesting chlorophyll-protein LHCP (4). Current work is focused on structural and functional aspects of individual complexes as well as their architecture within the membrane. This report summarizes the results obtained with several monoclonal antibodies produced against photosystem I (PSI) reaction centers isolated from spinach chloroplasts.
