Abstract
Chromatophores from Rhodospirillum rubrum, wild type strain, S-l, contain two types of pigment-protein complexes:
-
reaction centers, RC, consisting of 3 protein subunits (L, M, H) with the pigments bacteriochlorophyll a, bacteriopheophytin a and the carotenoid spirilloxanthin.
-
light-harvesting complexes, LHC, consisting of 2 polypeptides α and β, with the pigments bacteriochlorophyll a and spirilloxanthin.
