A Standardized Model for Structural Control Experiments and Some Experimental Results

  • Conference paper
Structural Control

Abstract

Structural control in civil engineering is an exciting concept. It not only provides an attractive means of enhancing structural safety and serviceability during large loading episodes, but also leads to the notions of ‘active’ structures whereby structures are designed with active elements in mind — a fundamental departure from past and current passive structural design practices. As Zuk [1] puts it, one sees in active structural control ‘a basic change in kind, not just in amounts; as different as an automobile is to a wagon’.
