A Critical Evaluation of the Incremental Step Test

  • Chapter

Synopsis

The cyclic stress-strain (css) curves of OFHC copper (99.99%) and stainless steel (304 L), as obtained by a modified incremental step test are compared with those obtained by conventional single- or multiple-step tests at constant plastic strain amplitudes. The discrepancies between both types of css-curves are explained in terms of the (dislocation) microstructures observed by TEM and through an analysis of the shapes of the hysteresis loops.
