Abstract

In this paper a calculation of overall response of thin orthotropic cylindrical shells is presented. Transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia terms are included in the analysis because of their obvious importance in the case of composite shells. The modal forms are assumed to have the axial dependence in the form of a simple Fourier series. Various aspects studied here involve influence of boundary conditions, changes in shell geometrical parameters, change in the directions of orthotropy, etc., on the frequencies, mode shapes and modal forces. Analytical results are shown to be in good agreement with some available experimental and theoretical results.
