Abstract

Polymers are amazingly useful materials of construction — not least in foam form. When used properly, polymers (rubbers and plastics) are extremely safe — non-toxic, non-irritant, odourless, tasteless, insulating, cheap and easily processed — and they show very little change in physical or chemical properties over their useful lives which can often exceed 50 years. These properties have made these materials increasingly valuable to the construction, engineering and furniture industries.
