Abstract

To the casual observer, there might not appear to have been any significant developments in rubber mixing in the last decade. It still has all the appearances of a black art, in both the literal and the metaphorical sense. However, the oil crisis of the early 1970s, and the subsequent inflation in the cost of petroleum hydrocarbons and of energy, marked a turning point in rubber processing generally, and in mixing in particular.
