Mechanochemical Modification of Polymers by Antioxidants and Stabilisers

  • Chapter
Developments in Polymer Stabilisation—8

Summary

The synthesis of polymer-bound antioxidant adduct concentrates by a high-shearing mixing procedure is outlined and their potential applications are discussed. The evidence suggests that the need for substantive antioxidants and stabilisers in a range of polymer substrates can be satisfied by adduct concentrates in a small number of polymers and that the adducts can be used in the same way as conventional additives. The future potential for polymer-bound antioxidants is believed to be substantial, particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries and in biocompatible polymers.
