Abstract

It is an honor to attend this Symposium organized to pay respects to the late Professor Piet De Somer. The range of the subject matter under discussion is testimony to the breadth of Prof. P. De Somer’s scientific interests just as the Rega Institute is an Embodiment of his recognition that scientific progress requires the commitment of tangible resources. Clearly Prof. De Somer was a scientist who recognized the need to explore practical means to foster a productive relationship between scientific progress and its practical applications.
