Abstract

The causative agent of AIDS has been identified as a human retrovirus, designated human T-cell lymphotropic virus type III (HTLV-III) (1), lymphadenopathy-associated virus (LAV) (2), AIDS-associated retrovirus (ARV) (3) and, more recently, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
