Abstract

The diagnosis of internal derangement of the TMJ has so far been carried out using plain X ray and conventional tomographic studies, arthrography, and in the last decade, high resolution facilities and multiplanar reconstruction on CT. The internal derangement most frequently found concerns the meniscus, which could only be seen indirectly using conventional X ray methods and arthrography and in not too great a detail even on sophisticated CT systems.
