Abstract

The goal of the neuropathological examination of a cerebral neoplasm is to obtain an accurate measure of its proliferative potential. The underlying assumption made by those who must treat patients is that there is a direct correlation between the histological characteristics of a brain tumor and its prognosis and its response to treatment. However, experience has shown that there is often a considerable variation in the clinical behavior and rate of proliferation of neoplasms with the same histological characteristics.
