Abstract
In a way a malignant tumor may be considered as an autonomous entity having its own circulatory and metabolic characteristics. Yet, very little is known about the pathophysiological behavior of a particular cancer in the individual patient. Most of the knowledge on the functional properties of tumors is based on animal studies and on in vitro experiments, and not necessarily transferable to an individual human cancer.
