Abstract

The Netherlands is a small country, with a population of about 15 million people packed into a small area. Historically, the Netherlands has been a trading nation, with a strong international orientation. All the same, if this traditional way of looking at things did not exist, it would need to be developed, because health care technology is truly an international issue.

Refusal to accept the inevitable shortcomings of any society is responsible for a good deal of what is best in political life.
