Abstract
The existence of accommodation has been established by different experiments. Sheiner, in 1619, elaborated an elegant demonstration of accommodation and established that the young eye has a mechanism for changing focus. Thomas Young (1801) demonstrated that this change does not occur in the cornea or in the length of the eyeball. All evidence indicated that the dioptric change in accommodation results from a change in the form of the lens. Young also demonstrated that accommodation could be exerted despite the neutralization of the cornea.
