Scenario A: The reference scenario

  • Chapter
Growing Old in the Future

Abstract

In this chapter the ‘Reference Scenario Ageing’ is discussed. A reference scenario serves as a background against which one or more other scenarios can be viewed. A reference scenario can assume the form of a trend scenario. In this instance, existing development trends are extrapolated into the future. A reference scenario can also consist of a null scenario. In this case, one or more components are assumed to remain permanently or temporarily unchanged. 1)
