Abstract

Systemic arterial hypertension is frequently a problem in the perioperative period. By definition, a blood pressure greater than 160/95 mmHg indicates that a patient has hypertension. However, hypertension may result from a variety of causes. This presentation will examine some of the factors involved, the consequences of hypertension, and the approaches the anesthesiologist might use to improve patient management during the perioperative period.
