Abstract

This was the earliest tilting-disc prosthesis devised1. The sewing ring was cloth-covered and the plastic inner portion of the ring retained the ends of the spindle of the tilting disc. Laminar flow occurred through the larger orifice and the lesser orifice had a turbulent flow pattern. A small amount of thrombus or granulation tissue could seriously interfere with valve function.
