Abstract

The common things most commonly occur, is a useful aphorism in clinical medicine. It is no less applicable in the field of sexual medicine where experience reveals the recurring nature of some dysfunctions and the relative rarity of others. The latter - like rare syndromes in clinical medicine - often achieve greater publicity than the common and sometimes intractable or difficult forms. For example, most family doctors will have heard of Peyronie’s disease but few will ever meet it, whereas dry ejaculation is less familiar yet commoner than the inflammatory disorder of Peyronie.
