Abstract
This book sets out to describe the metabolic processes by which micro-organisms can use and produce reduced C1 compounds. By this term we mean compounds of carbon that are more reduced than carbon dioxide (CO2) and which contain no carbon — carbon bonds, although some contain more than one carbon atom. A list of compounds of this type is given in Table 1.1.
