Expression and secretion of foreign polypeptides in yeast

  • Chapter
Yeast Biotechnology

Abstract

The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a unicellular eukaryote that exhibits many features of cell structure normally associated with higher organisms such as a nucleus, nucleolus, golgi body and endoplasmic reticulum. In addition, many elements of macromolecular synthesis in yeast are similar to those observed in higher eukaryotes.
