Abstract
In the planning of the space research programme of Japan, continuation of activities in each sub-discipline has been considered of vital importance. In this paper, the future space astronomy programme of Japan is outlined, and the Solar-A mission (solar physics) and the Astro-D mission (X-ray astronomy) are described in some detail.
