Intergalactic Plasma in Clusters: Evolution

  • Chapter
Hot Thin Plasmas in Astrophysics

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 249))

Abstract

The statistical sampling of the X-ray sources associated with the Intra-Cluster Plasma in distant clusters and groups of galaxies will provide a direct view of the clustering process and of the history of the ICP in the making. We discuss the information that may be derived from the number counts and the redshift distribution of such sources, referring to the results from the present stage of the Medium Sensitivity Survey by HEAO 2 and from its continuing extensions. Additional implications of cosmogonic interest may be tested with future and deeper X-ray missions.
