Abstract
Observations of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich decrement towards galaxy clusters are reviewed. The redshift-independent nature of the decrement is emphasised and the possibility of the direct probing of cluster evolution via S-Z observations is considered. It is argued that there are good prospects for such observations with — and only with — the Cambridge enhanced 5-km telescope, whose salient features are described.
