Pulsation and Mass Loss: Evolutionary Considerations

Pulsation and Mass Loss in Stars

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 148))

Abstract

This review includes a general discussion of the status of current investigations concerning the connection between stellar pulsation and stellar mass loss. It includes a brief summary of the evolutionary status of most known classes of pulsating variables. The emphasis is on distinguishing what is known from what is uncertain, both in our theoretical understanding of pulsating stars and the processes driving mass loss, and with respect to setting limits on the amount and significance of mass loss associated with stellar pulsation from observations.
