Abstract
In this paper I want to take up two ideas presented by Imre Lakatos in his article on the ‘History of Science and its Rational Reconstructions’:1 the ideas that (1) one ought to distinguish between an internal and an external history of science, and that (2) these two are in a relation of both competition and mutual completion.
