Abstract
We review and extend the knowledge of the shape of bubble clouds and describe the factors which lead to their uneven distribution in space and time in local region of the ocean. The information is based on observations using upward-pointing moored, or bottom-mounted, sonars and towed sonars. Side-scan sonar in particular provides much information about the movement of bubble clouds, their persistence, and the processes which affect their distribution.
